BURKINA FASO - Sindou to Leo Saturday 21st November
We traveled with the Pentax team and we were making good progress until the Pentax 2cv front screen broke when Richard was driving it, whilst trying to identify a strange noise! Fortunately along came the French teams who assisted with the removal of the screen after we had taped it up. Giancarlo and Laura then had a surprisingly enjoyable drive in goggles with no windscreen. It allowed them to freely wave to locals and take great photos out the car whilst driving! Towards the end of the day Richard spotted a 2CV with Bob Marley picture painted on it parked in a village. We stopped, found the owner amongst the large crowd that had gathered and Laura proceeded to start haggling to buy the windscreen (which was a perfect Belgium original) and the boot handle which they also needed. In the end a price of 10 Euros was agreed and Richard took it out, much to the amusement of the locals. It was carefully stowed in the back and later fitted at camp. The strange noise earlier that day ended up being a broken drive shaft, which completely broke as Pentax pulled into camp. This was also repaired with the help of friends. We arrived at Leo just before dark and found the world’s slowest internet cafĂ©, where we just managed to check our emails and put up a short post after one hour and a half!
