TOGO - Po Safar – Mango - Monastery - Monday 23rd November

The day started with the Tentoo team suffering an almost complete chassis failure on the front legs at the end of where it had been re-enforced. We had noticed they were running low in the past few days, (even nicknaming them the low-riders), but thought it was just the suspension donuts squashing up after all the off-roading; WRONG! Richard spotted the chassis arms had nearly completely broken off whilst helping the guys do a road side repair to their accelerator cable. Fortunately Frank the head mechanic was passing and on hand. The car continued to camp with the help of some clever ratchet strapping!

That evening we stayed in the guarded court yard of a Catholic Monastery, there Frank successfully welded up the fatigue crack in Tentoo's chassis. We treated our car ‘Cookie’ to a second oil and filter change to try and finally get rid of the diesel that was in the oil. A hot meal was much enjoyed from the organization catering truck. The court yard created a great group atmosphere for the evening. In the morning the nuns supplied us with some home made yogurt for breakfast which was delicious especially as nobody had had fresh yogurt since Europe. The organization, in exchange for their hospitality, gave a donation as well as several boxes of school equipment including books, school bags and pens. Richard and myself donated one of our wind-up torches which they were very pleased with.
