Car background.. this car was found in a scrap yard by Richard's family over 15 years ago. It's been used by several people over the years, but always come back! The car has definitely seen better days and has narrowly excaped the crusher on more than one occasion including earlier this year. We are both strong believers that anything particularly 2cvs, are repairable and to re use and recycling is good for the environment so it made sense to choose this car as the donar car for Africa. This has made the challenge greater, but will hopefully send out a positive message to all who follow our project.
After 6 months of gathering together the basic parts needed and agreeing on a suitable donar vehicle we are now pleased to announce that our Africa car is moted and is now sporting a very beautiful roll cage. This has not proven easy as Richard has also been back at school teaching, which has meant long days on his part. The car is essentially ready with a strengthened chassis, new break pipes and other essential parts. There is still much further fine tuning to be done, but the massive and worrying task of having the car in complete bits for bodyshell and chassis repair is done (few). We leave this evening for the Belgium training weekend, which includes a technical test. Will let you know how we get on!
